Biography

Michael Sandys is Corporate and Commercial Law Director at Vincents Solicitors.

Michael is qualified as both a Barrister and a Solicitor having a Law Degree from King’s College London and a Masters in International Law from University of Liverpool.

He is a Commercial / Corporate solicitor with IP (Intellectual Property) as one of his specialisms.

Having over 28 years’ experience with a part of that time working both in-house at Marconi (telecoms supplier, previously GPT Ltd) and Meredith Jones (cotton traders), both historically based in Liverpool.

Michael was also seconded to Matalan for additional in house experience whilst a solicitor at Cobbetts. Given his own commercial experience he has an excellent grasp of how businesses work and the pressures that they can be under, both commercially and legally, having had diverse in-house exposure.

Michael spent his first 9 years in Manchester, firstly at Halliwells and then at Cobbetts undertaking contentious and non-contentious Intellectual Property (IP), Commercial and Corporate work. He also acquired experience in Defamation having acted for the Manchester Evening News and various individuals/ businesses from 2001 onwards whilst at Cobbetts.

He then spent the following 15 years in Liverpool at a number of practices advising primarily SME’s in various sectors from software suppliers, chemical manufacturers, food suppliers, digital creatives, etc.

At Vincents, Michael acts for a broad client base, mainly North West businesses. The work undertaken remains diverse and covers contract drafting and advice, transactional work such as buying and selling businesses and advice regarding the protection of IP and advice to business owners on their business structure and legal protection.

Additionally, he also advises on business disputes and the protection of IP in a contentious context and has been involved in a number of large commercial disputes that have been to the High Court and Court of Appeal, including shareholder disputes and commercial agency claims.

Michael particularly enjoys helping and supporting businesses in growing and protecting their assets as well as solving problems. The close interaction with the business owner and in providing legal guidance is for him a rewarding feature of the job.
