Cerebal Palsy Claims
If your child has suffered brain damage at birth as a result of a medical error and has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, our specialist Clinical Negligence team will be able to assist in pursuing a claim.
Cerebral Palsy is a condition that affects posture, movement and co-ordination and is caused by damage to the brain suffered before or shortly after birth.
Causes of cerebral palsy can include:
- Failing to appropriately manage risk factors during pregnancy.
- Failing to respond to signs of fetal distress during labour, resulting in the baby being starved of oxygen.
- Failing to proceed to a caesarean section during a difficult labour.
Cerebral Palsy can vary from mild to severe and it will affect everyone differently. Some individuals may suffer from physical symptoms with particular difficulties with movement, whereas some individuals will suffer from seizures and epilepsy.
There are four main types of Cerebral Palsy:
- Spastic Cerebral Palsy: The most common form of Cerebral Palsy, resulting in an individual’s muscles becoming still and tight, making control difficult.
- Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy: Causes uncontrolled and involuntary muscle contractions, affecting breathing, speech and language.
- Ataxic Cerebral Palsy: Affects an individual’s balance and can cause shaky movements of hands or feet and difficulty with speech.
- Mixed Cerebral Palsy: Indicates that the brain is injured in more than one area, resulting in symptoms affecting all areas of the brain.
In some cases, an individual may have minor symptoms affecting their motor skills, while in other situations, individuals will require lifelong care, housing adaptions, therapies and equipment.
This can be an incredibly anxious and daunting time for parents and the thought of pursuing a claim can be overwhelming.

I’m writing to thank you and your entire law firm for all of your hard work throughout my case.
Throughout the time we worked together, everyone at your law firm was kind, patient, and supportive. My hectic university schedule made it difficult for me to respond quickly, so your team was sure to email me every time there was a new development.
I cannot thank you enough for the amazing treatment you gave me. I hope that our paths should never have to cross again (no more broken bones for me!), but if they do, I’m confident your hard work and determination will make my case a breeze.
